Blaumar hotel is the only hotel in Salou that has the Q quality, ISO14001 and EMAS certificates for environmental management.

We were pioneers in Catalonia in the implementation of the EMAS system more than 20 years ago and we continue to renew our cerfificates year after year.

We have achieved this thanks to the efforts of our staff, although our guests have also played an important part.

Our Quality and Environment Committee meets monthly to analyse the results of the satisfaction questionnaires filled in by almost 2,000 guests every year. Thanks to this information, every year we are able to introduce improvements designed to meet the expectations of our guests and to protect the environment.

NEWS 2024. CIRCULAR ECONOMY AND OWN COMPOST

We’re among the first hotels on the peninsula to have installed an automated composting machine.

Since March 2024, we’ve been re-purposing food scraps from the buffet, typically destined for disposal, to create fertiliser for our gardens.

Our composting machine speeds up the aerobic or natural process (28 days vs. 6 months for manual processing). As a result, by the 4th–5th week since the introduction of the waste, organic and ecological compost is already available for collection. Our maintenance staff collects it, providing high-quality, natural fertiliser.

This way, we prevent waste generation and promote an effective and real circular economy.

Any excess compost is donated to collaborators, employees and local organisations.

In doing so, we align environmental and social sustainability, reduce food waste and turn waste into a resource that enhances the planet’s well-being!

NEW: VIRTUAL ECO-TOUR

Take a 360º virtual eco-tour of our hotel.

All our guests can take a virtual tour explaining in detail how we manage the environmental impact of our day to day activities.

You can take this guided tour in our Eco-corner with 3D virtual reality glasses, which are available to all our guests at no charge. We share all the measures we take daily to control and minimise our impact on the environment.

This immersive video lasts 7 minutes and is available in 4 languages, allowing you to explore facilities inside and out of the hotel with panoramic 360-degree views. This way, you can wander through several areas of the hotel virtually, such as the laundry, kitchen, supplies department, pool, reception and one of the rooms.

During the tour, we share how the facilities work, like using salt water instead of chlorine in the pool and recycling cooking oil to make the soap in the rooms. Plus, it also includes practical tips you put into practice to make your lifestyle more sustainable during your stay and once you return home.

ECOFRIENDLY CLEANING SERVICE

Did you know that in the daily cleaning of the rooms of a hotel like Blaumar, more than 3,000 liters of water are consumed?

At Hotel Blaumar, with an ISO14001 certificate and a pioneer in 2000 in implementing the European EMAS environmental management certificate, we have spent years reducing and optimizing our water consumption. Among the measures implemented is the flat scrubbing system of the Vileda brand, thanks to which we spend only about 500 liters of water on cleaning the floor, 65% less than a hotel that applies the usual scrubbing system, which reduces our daily consumption to approximately 2,300 liters.

Think what could be done with this water:

We could put 55 7kg washing machines washing, therefore, 400 kg of clothes.
We could supply almost 1,000 people with drinking water.
We could irrigate a field of 10 cherrys trees for 1 year.
We could fill the hotel pool in less than 3 months.

Every year we set ourselves new goals and objectives to continue improving our environmental behavior and for this reason, in 2023, as a novelty, we will start this activity, a collaborative gesture also for our clients: the eco-friendly cleaning.

HOW ECO-FRIENDLY CLEANING WORKS?

Continuing with our firm commitment to reducing the hotel’s impact on the environment, in January 2023 we changed our cleaning service to make it more sustainable with one main goal: cutting unnecessary water use and pollution with chemical products.

We know the success of this measure depends on our guests’ collaboration, so we invite you to take part in protecting our environment with this new service: eco-friendly cleaning.

HOW DOES IT WORK

We will still come to your room every day to clean the floors and bathroom (without water), take out the rubbish and make the beds. And once every three nights, we will do a general cleaning with water. It’s that simple.

If you think there’s no need to clean things that are already clean and want to reduce the environmental impact of your holidays, this service fits your needs by preventing unnecessary water use (up to 2,300 litres for the hotel as a whole).

And if you need or prefer standard cleaning (with water every day), don’t worry: just let reception know, and it will be set for the rest of your stay, at no extra cost.

ENVIRONMENTAL ACTIONS IN BLAUMAR HOTEL

We explain the actions that help us fulfill our environmental responsibility.

• NEW FOR 2025: The Blaumar Hotel is implementing a digital tool (Back2blu) to collect and display its social, economic, and environmental sustainability projects and results to guests on TV screens. This digital tool is being implemented to transparently showcase the hotel's results and encourage sustainable behavior among Blaumar Group employees, suppliers, and customers. This project (file DUM-030000-2023-162) is funded by the Ministry of Industry and Tourism and the European Union – Next Generation EU, within the framework of the Recovery, Transformation, and Resilience Plan.

• Oil soap: We recycle the oil from our kitchens to make handmade hand soap.
• Sustainable pool: We've reduced water consumption by 50%, and we don't use chlorine or chemicals to treat water, just sea salt.
• Eco-friendly ashtray: Use it on the beach for cigarette butts and other small items. You can request one from our reception staff.
• Gel/shampoo dispensers: This way, we avoid generating more than 15,000 individual plastic bottles each year. This soap does not contain parabens, sulfates, or silicones.
• Breakfast: We offer some products in bulk as an alternative to individual containers. Help us reduce the 80,000 containers wasted last year.
• Workshops: recycling scavenger hunt, flower planting, or oil-making workshop. Let your children learn about the environment while playing with our facilitators.
• Hotel tour: Want to learn our secrets and working methods? Talk to our hosts and sign up for one of our guided tours.
• Mediterranean Rooms: After the renovation, the rooms consume 50% less energy and 30% less water.
• Water consumption: Our water consumption in 2022 was 199 liters per guest per day. Our goal of excellence is 140 liters. Reduce your shower time by 1 minute and we can save enough water to fit in the hotel pool each month.
• Air conditioning: The unit will automatically turn off if you open the balcony doors. When you leave your room, don't leave the air conditioning on. Just a few minutes of patience upon your return will be enough to return to a comfortable temperature.
